I am a mother of four. I know. To be a mother is beautiful, but also so hard.

“Motherhood is humble. Service and waiver. A lifelong worry. A lesson in self-knowledge. Doubt and believe in yourself. Your faith in him. His faith in you. Uncertainty and certainty at the same time. Tears in the shower. Endless fatigue. Endless chaos and overwhelming harmony. Unknown pain in your heart. His eyes in your heart. Your voice in his. His smile is everywhere. The smell in your soul. Alliance with him. Motherhood is a bond. Holding on and letting go. Questions for yourself, answers from yourself. Motherhood is a sacrifice. And above all, gratitude. Thanks to the one who gave birth to you; and to the one who you gave birth to.”

I wanted to give a special gift to three mums of Christchurch. To celebrate motherhood, to be joyful about family.

On Mother’s Day, I had the opportunity to meet three very different families, three wonderful mothers. Each of them won a short photo session with me.

Documentary family photography is not really a “mini session” type. I usually spend hours with the family because I like to give time getting to know each other, playing with the children, and making friends with them. To be easygoing and calm, we need to be together more.

But this time I offered 20-minute mini-photoshoots as a gift, so I could offer it to several expectant mothers and her families.

It was also a challenge for me to get into the mood of a family photojournalism with the families in this short time. But luckily they were so cheerful, happy and lovely!

We enjoyed the ocean in Sumner, the sunny fall weather, and the celebration of love and motherhood!

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers who carry their children in their arms and in their hearts.

I thank the Knower of All Secrets for designing the Miracle in such an unimaginable, incomprehensible way – that women can be mothers. I can be a mother of four children. So blessed! I thank each and every Soul I got to love.

Thank you for Mothers. Thank you for Motherhood. Thank you for Life.
Truly a MIRACLE.
