Close your eyes, and imagine, that you are walking in the dark, soft sand by the ocean. It is late night, only the big, full moon shines, but it shines so strongly, the waves are dancing a silver dance. Can you hear the sound of the waves? In a calming rhyme, they cuddle the beach again and again.
This is the longest night of the year. It is cold, your face and hands are cold.
And suddenly, drum sounds come quietly to your ears. You follow the sounds, getting louder and faster as you get closer. People move as the rhymes call them, waving shadows in the warm firelight. They stand in a circle, some sit or lie on the ground.
Children, adults, young and old. Musical instruments, laughter, communion under the light of the full moon, by the warm glow of the bonfire, at Sumner beach.
A fire, sometimes blazing, sometimes smoldering, a circle of drums and other various instruments took over the space.
Magical experience. I had my camera with me, I wanted to keep these moments! And to share it, if I can, through the photos. I tried everything with my camera and I used my phone too. It was a real challenge in the dark with so little light.
They invited my son to make music too, the instruments passed from hand to hand. They started to dance with the fire, amazing performances. Fire, ocean, music and dance under the shiny moon.

“A warm, curious gathering of people from all walks of life shared the magical space that it was. Fire roared to keep us circled around it, music filled the air and bodies moved on the sand.
There was a moment when we all introduced ourselves into an improvised clapping beat, eyes closed and humming ensued. Inhibitions melt away and voices expressed themselves. Transformation of marshmallows on the ambers from a dense, tight package to a fluffy, soft deliciousness that we all love to have yet rarely make the time for.” – as they say.
