Family photography with Veronika Héda’s family. She is the author of the Keszekusza blog, may be known to many Hungarians for her humorous, honest blog posts, in which we all recognise ourselves – with a happy smile. It was a great pleasure for me to spend these few hours with them and to be part of their lovely, bubbly family, full of life and love.

“I admired Mea’s pictures from afar for some time before I made the decision to invite her into our home. I was very touched by her candid documentary photos, from which wonderful stories unfolded before my eyes.

We had never taken part in family photography before, we had never had a family photographer visit us, but after the birth of my third child, I felt that it was not enough for me to click. I wanted to create an authentic memory of the time when we became a family of five, when a little boy came among us after our two daughters.

I knew that I wouldn’t be able to play the role of a perfect mother, wife, and woman during this maternity period, and I quickly realised that in front of Mea – I didn’t have to. We found a common voice very quickly, practically in minutes we became relaxed in her presence. We didn’t have to do anything for the sake of the photos because Mea doesn’t take staged pictures – she was just with us and we lived our lives as we would have done otherwise.

And the end result is really us! As we were then, as we are! In an honest way. Mea perfectly captured a small piece of our life in the pictures and held a clear, heart-warming mirror in front of us: here is the story of our family. There is tiredness, messiness, arguing, but also lots of laughter and love.

Thank you for keeping these treasure moments for us!”

I had known that I wouldn’t able to play the role of the perfect mother and housewife in these little childhood years, but I soon realized, that with Mea I didn’t have to. She spent time with us as an old friend, and we just lived our life, the way we would have done anyway. Mea perfectly captured a little piece of us. The pictures held a heartwarming mirror: this is the story of our family.
